Greyboard is a structural core used inside wrapped rigid packaging. Evaluate it with the box geometry, wrapping paper and joints rather than treating a board thickness as a finished-box specification.
Ask for the actual core caliper in millimetres, supplier grade and sample rather than a universal thickness range. Greyboard is normally covered by a separate printed or specialty-paper wrap, so printing and foil are assessed on that visible paper. A folding carton uses its board as the folded shell; corrugated board has a fluted construction for a different structural task. Do not replace one with another based on grammage or apparent thickness.
Rigid-box importers and brand packaging teams need to distinguish the core from the visible wrap. Chipboard-based construction can support lid-and-base, drawer and shoulder-neck formats, but each geometry has different joints and fit requirements. A core selection should follow the pack size, weight and opening structure. Its recycled content or certification status needs supplier documentation.
The finished appearance comes from paper, print, corners and lining as well as the core. A thicker core can change lid clearances and fitment space. Evaluate wrapped edges and assembled dimensions on the sample before approving a material substitution. Greyboard is not a substitute for a corrugated shipping specification.
Send the rigid-box drawing, required core caliper, wrapping paper reference, filled weight and visible-edge expectations. Confirm any documented sourcing requirement before quotation.
